The WIST measures the disturbances in thinking ability that are basic to schizophrenia,
while controlling for intellectual capacity, literacy, and attentiveness.
It is available in two forms: Form A presents inherently anxiety-producing
content, while Form B has neutral content. Both forms contain 25 multiple-choice
questions that can be completed in about 15 minutes by anyone with an eighth-grade
education. Individually administered in minutes, the test generates scores
that correspond closely with standardized, reliable interview criteria for
diagnoses of schizophrenia. WIST is effective in predicting adaptive functioning,
rather than just manageability, in real-world versus hospital settings. Comparisons
of Form A and Form B scores allow you to discriminate acute from chronic patients.
